ST. LOUIS YWCA FACILITY GETS ROOM RE-DESIGN BY LOCAL DESIGN STUDENTS
The Missouri-East Chapter of ASID and interior design students have re-designed the TV room for the YWCA Metro St. Louis’s Transitional Housing Program for homeless women in St. Louis, MO. New furniture, art and accessories were provided through donations from local businesses and residents. The goal of the renovation was to create a more functional and inviting space to encourage interaction among program participants as well as relaxation and entertainment.
The Transitional Housing Program is part of the YWCA’s commitment to helping women to help themselves. It provides safe shelter for homeless, single women age 18 and older in dormitory style housing. Its mission is to empower women to effectively and quickly move out of homelessness and into self-sufficiency. In addition to housing, the program provides case management, counseling, job-readiness workshops, computer training and health care. Women who complete the program are able to obtain steady employment, attain self-sufficiency and economic stability to transition into permanent housing.
The Missouri-East Chapter of ASID would like to thank the following people and organizations for their generous donations and time to the renovation of the YWCA Transitional Housing facility’s community / TV room.
